Default first driving impressions

Well... I've put 150 miles over the past few days and I'm simply blown away by the car. SMG is the greatest option ever on the M3. It's amazing. I find myself playing with all the programs most of the time. DVD Nav is excellent. I use it almost everytime I drive. Car feels very poweful, solid and quiet on the inside. Love that fat steering wheel, interior finish and all gadgets. Only downfall: HK. It simply sucks. And that infamous front speaker rattle. HK in my E36 was a nightmare and although this one is much better than the old one, BMW should've done a much better job.

Once I figured out how to minimize the speed sensative volume I liked the H/K a lot better. As I did not want someone ripping apart my car felt the H/K was worth it. But I have no speaker rattles, That should be fixable.

Only downfall: HK. It simply sucks.

I have a good friend who runs an aftermarket car stereo business. He tells me that about 60% of his business comes from new Porsche and BMW owners. As a matter of fact he has an arrangement with several of these dealers whereby he installs his stereo upgrades as part of their dealer preparation before delivery.

It's apparent that Germans do not put much emphasis on stereo systems. The only thing that amazes me is that some posters think HK is great. And I use to think that M3 buyers were a discerning lot.

We should do a poll of who thinks the HK is great, fine whatever and link it to their age.

Here's a sad tale...........I had to spend about $800 to get my C5's BOSE system to sound decent (Eclipse head unit, Eclipse rear speakers leaving only the BOSE amp and subs in the doors). And, the HK in our M3 still sounds better and the price of the HK upgrade was about what we spent to 'improve' the Vette. The HK is better than the upgraded system that had in our previous S4 (that one had two 8" subs in the rear as I recall and they were too boomy and obnoxious/artificial sounding). Guess everything is relative.
