The standard of living is obviously higher than before and these days people are more educated than ever but, how come some, quite a percentage I must say, are getting ruder (I don't know if this even a word) to eachother? :nixweiss:

Ignorance is bliss.
Lack of community awareness? Narrowmindedness? Becoming to self centred? Many things can cause this. Had someone last night jump into the qeue when I was buying some magazines, and started discussing with me why he jumped into the qeue and stuff...wasn't impressed, considered it rude.

People who are afraid of losing their hoarded possessions become paranoid and live in fear of other people. People who have nothing to lose can't afford a big ego, while those who have more grow their ego proportionately. Insecure people compensate their insecurity by putting other people down and thereby create the illusion of security. People who doubt their own intelligence and beliefs are hasty to put others down before anyone has a chance to question them. Most people, hungry or stuffed fat, are afraid the food might run out before they get served. People have always been afraid of other people, perhaps rightly so. In most people, status, education, fame and standard of living is an empowerment and justification for rudeness. It appears, unfortunately, that man's evolutionary path toward the positive is through the negative. ![]()

I hate to say this,, but after living in HongCouver, (Vancouver), for a while I noticed that the many Asians arriving were very wealthy and yet not very approachable.
RUDE, defensive, often arrogant and belived that they represented more than a 5th of the worlds population and eventually Canada would be theirs.. Many views like that i ran into. But I would trade you a bus load of Jamicans for a car load of Chinese just the same. They may be rude, but they sure do have DRIVE and AMBITION. just hope they get their ZEN back soon. |

the world has become a cold impersonal place...no one is looking out for each other, hence everybody is looking out for themselves...
small towns seem to be less 'cold', due to the fact, chances are you will come across a given person again...where as in a large city, you feel protected to practice 'rudeness' because you feel isolated and will not cross paths again... |

I have just one word for you, one word.
Plastics. j/k As there are more people and more competition, people put up stronger defense barriers around themselves. They may seem standoff-ish and rude but once you can lower their barriers, most of them are probably pretty nice. It's a tough world so you have to be tough to stay strong and safe. Even Mr. Rogers had tat's under that sweater of his.

Better living standard? That is one side of the coin. We sure have more money, better jobs, drive finer cars but do people really enjoy all these? To be honest, I don't really enjoy having 2 jobs and a business. I don't enjoy the fact that my friends are too busy and only can go out every other week. I don't enjoy traffic jams, I don't enjoy the time I waste trying to apologize to my boss and clients for errors caused by my partner-team... Also I dont enjoy the fact that my mother in law is downstairs with my kids at all.
