Default Got a qu about my credit report

I just took a look at my credit report and under the inquiries section I see this, Not 100% sure what it means... is it for these CC offers you get in the mail like a pre qualifying?? And is this bad to have on my credit report?

Depends, look at your inquiry count. It should have 2 different sections of inquiries. One section of inquires counts against you and one section doesn't. The one that doesn't is things like insurance quote inquires and stuff like that which are called "Soft inquiries." "Hard inquiries" are ones that impact your credit score. If the above is considered a "Hard Inquiry" I'd contact both the credit agencies and Bank One because that alone will destroy your credit score. Big time.

Given that it is a promotional inquiry, i.e., the card issuer is requesting the info for prequal purposes, I would believe it is a soft inquiry as the individual is not requesting credit.

Those dont hurt your credit. That is banks selling off your info and other lending institutions looking at your merit. They dont hurt you nor will a bank from which you are trying to get a loan from even see.... trust me, I know!!

Don't worry about it, there are million of those on mine. Makes it hard to read though. Capitol one is the worst, they bombard your credit report and your mailbox with crap. I hate them and will never do business with them even if they gave me 0% for life plus a $500 kicker.

Inquiries only count against you if you initiate them in the process of looking for a loan. Even then, I believe there's a certain threshold that is considered reasonable. They're just looking out for people who are trying to get money from every source available to them.
