Default Extended Maintenance Upgrade-Worth It?

I have an 02 M3 vert with the 3/36 maintenance. Expires June of 05
I can upgrade to a 6/100,000 scheduled maintenance for $1644.00.
Basically it would give me three more years.
First of all do you think it is worth it?
Second, is this a good price?

Also, my warranty expires June of 06. If I have the scheduled maintenance would you recommend extending the warranty if I have the extended maintnenace?
It would have to be through a third party and is offered by the Bmw dealership. I do not have prices at this time.

What a pain in the butt. Your help is appreciated.

I have a 02.5 and also contemplating the same thing...then i decided NO, its not worth it. I can change the brake pads, I can do the oil change, I can reset the computer, I can I can...so forget the 1600 bucks...or whatever..BMW doesnt do squat anyway.

all prices on maintenance is the same...

see with this forum, we are all here to help each other out..on tech stuff...and I have found alot of info here and there, so no need on maintenance.

I would be worried about EXTENDED FACTORY WARRANTY, not MAINTENANCE WARRANTY, and the extended warranty is 3249 for our M3s for 2 more years 100K miles..im still working on this..info.

It depends on how much driving you do? The warranty only covers scheduled services so if in the next 3 yrs the mileage you put on the car doesn't get you to at least Insp II and brakes or clutch replacement(yes the extended maintence covers clutch replacement even though the new car warranty doesn't) then it is not worth it to just have coverage for scheduled oil changes. I purchased it b/c it is worth it for me. I have an 03(11/02 build) with 49000 miles put on it. It is due for Insp 2 already which normally doesn't happen till 51-53000. Also brakes (pads/rotors)$1000 will need to be replaced within next 2-3 months. Clutch(~1,000) usually replaced around 75000-10000, Insp 1($500) at ~ 75000. So you can see that for the 1200-1400 I paid(can't remember) it is worth it. Insp 2 alone is ~$1000. I would contact Difeo BMW in Tenafly, NJ for the maintence warranty.

I believe th rotors are replaced as well otherwise you will get vibration from the brakes. My dealer will change rotors when pads need to be changed. Also the Inspections are the majority of the maintenance costs. Insp 2 involves adjusting the valves

I have 25K on the car and do not drive more than 10K a year. I plan on keeping the car for at least 3 years. So I guess that would be at least 2 more inspections, brakes, oil changes etc. I would not do any of this myself so it appears to be worth the money. I need to find out what it covers. Also, what if a part breaks that is part of the scheduled maintenance but is out of warranty. Could get complicated.

It's WORTH the money if you don't know how to do self-maintenace or don't have time....

Brakes/Rotors are coverd under the upgraded maintenance warranty....

And service interval would be every 1 physical year OR serivice indicator on dash, whichever comes first.... so if you drive only 10k per year, that means you will do maintenance for once per year.... which is worth the money, cuz you will do brakes and inspection 2.

if you need more info, look for my thread here pg3.

Keep in mind that dealers have different prices on the same plans.
I just extended my maintenance to 72 month or 100K miles through Peter Pan BMW in San Mateo.
$1195.-
I think thats the best price you are going to find, give them a call if you are going to do it.
$1644.- sounds like a ripoff

Don't forget that Inspections require valve adjustment which I don't think that the majority of us have the skillset for.

Paul at Peter Pan just quoted me $1644 to go from 3/36 - 6/100.

Did you already upgrade to 4/50?

WTH? I just called Peter Pan to extend my maint. warr. and she quoted me a good price but told me that my car has to be there in order for them to extend it. Is this true? Cause I'm all the way in FL and was under the impression that this could be done over the phone. Please correct me if I'm wrong. :nixweiss:
