Default My 8000$ E46 M3 Project

Welp I pulled the trigger and bought a cheap 2002 M3 (8000$) TiAg 6MT with 115,000 miles I figured as this is not my first E46 I knew of all of the parts and work I will be doing to it so starting at a low baseline was exactly what I was looking for.

Condition:
Overall cosmetically it is pretty good I noticed signs of a new driver side fender (running paint) and probably hood no actual structural damage and nothing is noticeable to someone other than me obviously. Has rotted rubber aorund the windows from being a florida car - expected. Other than that just some expected rock chips etc. Interior is a little more on the worn side, but that is the least of my concerns as i will most likely have the seats reupholstered, front speakers are blown... eh, Rims look like they have eaten some curbs poor M wheels.

Car seems pretty good mechanically Gear box a little crunchy if not shifted with finesse hoping to alleviate that with some better fluid and new mounts. Car pulls to the right upon acceleration and left on deceleration RTABS already on the list but due to the fact that the brake pad sensor came on shortly after i am pretty sure its a stuck caliper. Sunroof doesnt work boo and there is an exhaust rattle (which is fine getting a new one anyways). A little play in the steering i attributed to the steering coupler. A little power steering whine at the extremes. Other than that id say i made out pretty well for 8000$

On the agenda:
Remove rear end, reinforce subframe mounts replace all bushings install RTAB Limiters - DONE decided to go with redish plates instead of TMS
Install Vinces top side reinforcement - Done
Change/flush all fluids - DONE
Replace steering coupler - DONE
Fuel Filter - Done
Koni Adjustable shocks front and rear - Done
K&N intake - Done - ordered custom AFE Prodry cone to go on this setup to rid myself of the bad K&N - Returned back to stock intake with silicone elbow
Auto Soultions Short throw short shifter kit 30% reduction - Done
F10 M5 Shift knob/boot retrofit - done
Leaky rear view mirror - Fixed
Active Autowerkes Gen 4 exhaust - Done
Agency Power headers - Done
2 oem resonated sectoin 1 pipe mod - Done
Replace window rubber/emblems/badges - Done
Replace OEM Grilles with Black out Motorsport grilles - Done
Install Avin Avant 2 Navi - Done - ended up swapping out that piece of crap for an erisin
All new brakes and rotors - done - Hawk HPS 5.0 + ECS rotors = squeal :-/
Rebuild Stuck caliper - done
Paint Brake Calipers - done (Dont hate i love my ///M calipers)
New staggered Konig Oversteer 19's - Done
Replace Drive shaft bearing and Guibo - done
Replace diver side side Skirt (has some scratches) - done
Black Stone analysis - done
Fix Sunroof - Replaced with functional one from parts car
Trade Halogen headlights for Xenon - Done
Khoalty (helios?) angel eyes - Done
Custom License Plate - "BMMMR" - Done (yes im that guy)
Vanos BULLETPROOF - Done
Valve Adjustment - Done @ 118,xxx miles
Spark plugs - Done
Custom High Pressure Power Steering lines - Done
TTFS custom dyno tune - Done - made 320rwhp
TINT - Done
Rod Bearings replaced @ 131750 Miles
Complete front end refresh @ 131750 Miles

On the agenda for the future:
- Drop the tank again and fix vent hose leak - Done
- upgrade speaker system - Done
- Replace Avant 2 - Done
- New oil analysis - Done... Looks like the engine is nice and healthy now
- new front bumper or paint - Priced out - on hold
- Interior swap to a nicer color option - Fully restored Imola Red interior installed no rattles noises or anything!
- Fix sunroof - Sun roof is IN!
- OEM CSL Trunk - Done!

Amount currently invested in car
Car - 8000$
Parts - ~4000$
Labor - All me baby 0$
=12000, Not bad for a E46 M3 the way i want it with everything i can think of going wrong fixed/refreshed

Update: this has become much more expensive, don't know the exact figures but no regrets

Update: Looks like i will be taking a road trip in the next few weeks down to Dafoe to get my vanos bullet proofed, valve adjustment and a custom TTFS Dyno tune... Well worth the drive!

Update: I have completed all initial projected items for this project. Now I can slowly integrate cosmetic items that can be addressed

That was a fun project driving back from TTFS yesterday was really exhilarating with how well my car pulls. :-)

Attached are the pictures of it at buy time. This is what a 8000$ M3 looks like hit: after pics later currently shes on jack stands with her ass out

Figured I would share my "Budget" M3 project

Update: Found some small surface rust spots at the bottom of the trunk lid, looks like its rubbing... Hmm is this a common issue with these cars? or is something not straight... Looks like she will need a little bit of love to get rid of the tiny rust. Not a big deal though...

*edit* bottom of trunk lid was rubbing adjusted the bumpers all good now lid was fixed by body shop.

Nice buy, I looked at this car but it sold fast! Ended up getting one from NoVa. Looking forward following the build.

Havent posted updates in a while house projects and others in the way. But i am finally back on to my E46 project. Here is the rear end out and the crack i found on the front passenger subframe mount. as of now i see no other cracks, Will be installing redish plates on the underside and vinces kit he is making for the top side...

20160319_163734.jpg

And yes i am using a skateboard to move the Rear end assembly

Limited room due to it still being semi winter here in NY and everyhting is stored in the garage

Now with everything out i can see everything and this car is VERY nice underneath absolutely no rust or corrosion on anything even line fittings and exhaust bolts were pristine everything came off effortlessly i am very happy about this. saves me a ton of work and headache.
