Default Extended subframe bolts, Vince-style -Gauging interest/group buy

As there has been some interest in the extended bolts (to the right of the factory bolts in this pic)

and accessories I have designed and used to reinforce my RACP ( http://www.m3forum.net/m3forum/showt...p?p=1067164063 ), I'm now offering them to any M3F member interested.

As some are interested in the the front bolts only (may for example have, or plan on installing the Mason rear bar/xbrace) I'm offering the bolts in two different kits:

"Fronts only", $80.

This is a pair of the front bolts as seen in this picture (please note there are two assembled pairs and two un-assembled pairs of front bolts, and one factory bolt in this picture)

EDIT: 2 OE collar nuts and zinc coating of the bolts are now included.

As you can see the hex shaped spacer, located roughly half way on the factory bolts, is screwed on to the bolt (from the "top") in my design. I chose this design as it simplifies the manufacturing of the bolt as the shop can cut these of a hex bar. This in turn keeps the price reasonable.

The hex shaped spacer is to be secured to the bolt using Loctite 648 retaining compound,

EDIT May 2016:
I previously said it would be fine to TIG weld the nuts to the studs/bolts. While this is true for the Stainless steel versions of the studs/bolts you should NOT WELD THE Cr/Ni (more specifically 34CrNiMo6) studs/bolts.

While it is possible to weld the 34CrNiMo6 alloy steel, this requires pre heating the steel to about 150-200 deg C. Unless this is done properly (no, I don't know the details) the rapid increase in temperature will create a brittle and weak material transformation closest to the weld.

So ****PLEASE DO NOT WELD THE 34CrNiMo6 STUDS/BOLTS!****

If anyone has done so please contact me.

END EDIT May 2016

These bolts are however delivered un-assembled such that they can be shipped in a flat, padded, envelope.

This design reuses the lower collar nuts used on your existing front bolts, but need to be complemented with and additional pair of collar nuts for the top of the subframe mount.

Shipping (without tracking number) to just about anywhere in the world is included in the $80.

Payment is due to my Paypal account prior to shipping.

So far I have shipped three front kits like this to members:

• Brian n,

• Hacksaw and

• BearDeXPS

and it has proved to work very well. I also believe they should be willing to testament to the bolts as well as doing business with me.

"Full kit", $135.

This includes the "Front only" kit and adds a pair of the rear bolts, a pair of the "cups"...

(the "cups" are to be welded into the bar)

... and a paper template of the end-plate (shown in the pic of the bar above)

The rear bolts need to be completed with one collar nut each (one pair for the pair of bolts) to act as the hex head of the rear bolt. These collar nuts are to be screwed on and secured with Loctite 648 (same as the hex spacer on the front bolts).

EDIT: 6 OE collar nuts and zinc coating of the bolts are now included.

The rear bolts also need to be complemented with an additional pair of collar nuts at the top mount as shown here:

Shipping and terms are the same as for the "Front only" kit (the price is however $135).

If we reach 10 or more kits I will also include the collar nuts:

required for each respective kit. One pair for the "fronts only" kit and three pairs for the complete kit.

Material.

The bolts I'm personally using, and the ones I have delivered so far, are made of the stainless steel quality EN 1.4301.

I have two pairs of stainless steel front bolts ready to ship.

This stainless steel is however not as strong as the grade 8.8 factory bolt.

The typical yield/proof values for EN 1.4301 are 360/660 N/mm2 (as shown here http://www.dew-stahl.com/fileadmin/f...t_4301_UK_.pdf)

Compared to the 8.8's 640/800.

Personally I'm not worried the least about this as I believe the factory bolts are oversized due to practical reasons.

So far I have shipped one "full kit" like this to member:

•kyolml

BUT, as I have been asked if I could supply these bolts in a (non stainless) steel quality similar to the grade 8.8, I am offering this as well.

The steel quality will be the chrome/nickel alloy 34CrNiMo6 with the yield/proof values of about 700/1000 N/mm2.

HOWEVER, the shop will need to specifically order this quality for me (us), AND they will need to machine a hex bar out of a round bar (apparently there is no hex bar in the size I (we) need.

So in order for me to offer you this quality steel I need at least 10, preferably 15 pairs (could be part of the full kit) of the front bolts in order to cover my cost.

If are interested in either kit, please let me know your choice of kit and preferred material in a post below. Please also let me know if you're committed to order if there are at least ten members committed (assuming the chrome/nickel alloy).

EDIT: Adding:

"Rears only" option for those not in need for the front fix but desire the rear fix.

Content will be "Full kit" minus "Fronts only" and the price is $80 (the same as fronts only)

Drill guiding rod and rubust washers for front mounts. $10

This option provides a "tool" wich will make it so much easier to drill out the 51mm hole in the slanted floor plate.

Please see post#93 for details about how it's used. Note that the one I'm offering for sales is a properly turned rod (not pieced together like my own one)

I'm also throwing in sturdy washers for the front mounts.

A set of two cage mount extender/adaptor & 2 sturdy washers. $75This little clever component is something I put together for memeber DaveM-sport as he expressed a need to bolt a Cage to the rear mounts at some point.

A pair of front pipe gussets $75 (including additional shipping cost due to the box rather than the padded envelope). Please see post #162 for more info.

These are the lists of committed orders. I will be updating them as people sign up.

Interested in 1 full kit. This makes the use of the foam not possible, right ?

Excellent! Should i put you on the list as committed to order if there are enough members signed up?
Also, what is your preferred material? Stainless or the stronger chrome/nickel alloy (please see the last part of the first post. I believe you where so fast responding that I was still working on the post )

My design does not stop you from foaming should you like to. I have just chosen not to foam as:
• I don't believe it's necessary once the cross bar is installed
• Foaming would limit any potential future fixes should we find that necessary (which I have no reason to believe).

Yes, absolutely. I wouldn't have done something that would have limited the usability of my car. I need the back seat to take my youngest to preschool.
Here she is installing her seatbelt BTW

Interested in the full kit, chrome/nickel. I'll let you know for certain at the end of the week after I discuss with my body shop. Thanks for setting this up!

Very interested in a full set of the Cr/Ni.

Will be reading through your updated build log and asking questions soon. Thanks again for doing all this.

Should I add you to the list?

As I have two sets of the front bolts I would just need to have a pair of the rears, and a pair of the cups made.
If you are in a hurry I could ask my guy if he could squeeze that in between some other stuff. If so I could probably have them here in my house by the end of this week. Shipping to the US has been about a week (given the non priority letter shipment I have used)
