Cool BTB's 2003 Imola Red M3 Slicktop - Ongoing Build

Hey guys,

I've been posting/lurking around M3Forum since May 2013 when I first got the car, but never got around to creating a build thread. Until now that is.

The car is a 2003 (11/2002 build date) Imola Red/Black Napa 6MT M3 slicktop.

Factory options include:
-Harmon Kardon premium sound
-Heated front seats
-Rainsensor
-smoker's package
-front armrest (now deleted)
-xenon headlights

Anyway, its a fairly low-option M3 having no nav, manual seats, and no sunroof. Personally I think the outside looks a little cleaner without headlight washers and parking sensors as well.

As far as plans for the car go, I'm currently a college student, so just keeping it clean, well maintained and running right are big enough challenges. I plan on keeping the car as my daily driver until I can hopefully afford more than one car, at which point I plan on building a streetable track/drift car out of it.

In it's current state:

Around 77k on the engine here, 168k on the chassis

Modification list
As of 7/19/16

Engine/Exhaust:
-motor is from an '06 IB ZCP (not that it matters) and is approaching 80k miles
-full Beisan suite
-BW/C&R radiator
-BW/C&R oil cooler
-mishimoto fan kit
-mishimoto silicone radiator hoses
-Status gruppe catless headers
-Status gruppe 200 cell catted section 1
-RE X-pipe section 2 w/ EVC
-gold foil wrap
-machined oil filter cap

Drivetrain:
-JB Racing aluminum single mass flywheel
-Clutchmasters kevlar clutch (that blew up, now running oe luk)
-TMS braided clutch line
-E60 shift lever
-UUC DSSR
-Rogue delrin brake and clutch pedal bushings
-Rogue delrin shifter carrier bushings
-cdv delete

Suspension/Brakes:
-Koni yellow shocks/struts
-Eibach pro-kit springs
-Rogue rsms
-TMS plates welded into racp, bmw foam
-Apex EC-7 18x9.5 et35 all around (12mm rear spacer)
-Potenza RE760 sport 245/40
-Stoptech slotted rotors, ss lines, and "street performance" pads
-Brembo 600

Exterior:
-SGT SCZA trunkid
-euro bumper
-black kidneys and side grills
-csl replica diffuser

Interior:
-Coby wheel alcantara shift and ebrake boots
-business radio button bracket fix
-Schroth quick fit harness
-BW little nicky knob
-custom fan switch/gauge panel
-Ultimate pedals (shiny smooth) with heel toe extension; wrapped in griptape
-armrest deleted, euro tray
-OMP Corsica 350mm, roundel horn button
-LeatherZ VDO gauges (oil pressure, water temp, volts)

Future Plans/Dreams:
CAE shifter
hydraulic handbrake with dual rear calipers
aluminum subframe bushings
oe rtab w/ limiter, or monoball
Recaro spg xl
Livery Dromo wheels
Brembo GT 4 piston
CF airbox
cams
TTFS
SCZA/SS street muffler
coilovers
adjustable sway bars
camber plates
clutch type built diff
DSS rebuilt axles
etc.

After doing an NA build/bolt-ons I'd consider doing a lower compression FI built engine w/ lang racing and going the turbo route, if I can reasonably afford to do so (inspired a bit by Mike Essa's car). Maybe stay NA and do a stroker, though... we'll see

Thanks for looking

Figured I can use this post for some old pictures of the car.

Back when the car was bought, May 2013

I know, she was rough

Track Days:

Gingerman Raceway - 4/25/14

First track day I had with the e46

Autobahn Country Club w/ MVP - 8/4/14

(after passing my dad in his e92 )

I've gone to a few track days since then but didn't get any professional pictures; I intend to put more pictures of the car doing cool things/looking good as they happen in this post

Just this past weekend I installed my new updated oil cooler

Vs. old

As well as the switch panel I made for the mishimoto fan, I think I'll make a new one with 2 spaces for vdo voltmeter and oil pressure gauges as well, but I'm glad this one turned out okay

And some footage 'testing' the new oil cooler

Default BTB's 2003 Imola Red M3 Coupe - Ongoing Build

Got car coded with ncs expert: enabled drls, one touch 'lambo' vents, key fob windows up/down, halogens on with xenon highs, etc. Very convenient.

Also received my pair of potenza re760 sports to match my fronts in preparation of next track day, blackhawk farms with PCA.

Edit: and a pic after a recent wash

Installed my new 350mm omp Corsica and matching potenza re760 tires on the rear. Will have to get more pics once I get the BMW roundel horn button (and more of the car in general )

Resistors added to turn off airbag light

Can't believe how much a steering wheel alone can change the feel of a car!

Car looks great! Have you done an oil analysis on your engine yet??? Just curious because we have very similar mileage

Thanks man, I've done four of them actually, but the original engine was replaced with a used one shortly after I got the car (138k miles), I believe the original had a blown head gasket, and there was a fair amount of buildup in the motor, yada yada yada it got replaced. I've currently got ~77k on my engine. So they may be of no help to you

Regardless, the oil analyses can be found on the blackstone thread or in my photobucket album.

Iron was high on the first one, I believe there was some minor cylinder scuffing (tws and -20 degree F weather) as I remember during one particular cold start (leaving school) the engine made a scraping/scuffing noise for the first few seconds. Not good. They have gotten better and better since then so I don't think it was detrimental to the engine, and I believe each sample had at least one track day on it (except the one with pennzoil ultra euro 5w-40, winter oil).

Unlike the stereotype I actually like to inform people of my whereabouts on the road
