Default Albino's '02 LSB

This journal will be a place for me to log my time with the car (it should be a while), and to talk about my plans for the car looking for feedback.

First, a bit about myself. I am a mechanical engineer working in the auto industry in middle Tennessee. Originally from NY, I moved down here for the work and because the Smokies are just plain beautiful.

As far as cars go, my first car was an 1991 Isuzu Impulse RS (kudos if you know what that is), and then I went through a slew of older VWs before ending up in a '99 323i sedan. I wasn't looking for one at the time, but to date its holds the record for the longest ownership of any of my cars because I fell in love with it. At some point I had dreams to swap in a full M3 drivetrain to make the M3 sedan that never was, but alas I wasn't properly keeping up the maintenance properly. After seeing a $5k repair estimate shortly after taking on a company lease vehicle, it made more financial sense to sell her.

That brings us to my 2002 Laguna Seca Blue M3. Throughout the company lease I would check the classifieds to see what M's were going for these days. Mid-December this one popped up ~8mi from my office desk, with 39k on the clock, 100% factory stock at a reasonable price. I didn't want to regret letting her go so I took the penalty on turning the lease in early and now I finally own my attainable dream car. I plan on owning it for as long as possible.

This car just "fits" me. The overall scheme of this journal is to build the car to fit my driving style and become a "jack of all trades" if you will. I prefer high-quality, OEM parts when appropriate or available, and I do way too much research when looking into parts and modifications...

Looks great. I actually got into my dream M this past November and been waiting to install all these parts I hoarded over the winter, hahaha. Keep her clean and running. Good luck and look forward to seeing your build.

Exactly. I have a pair of 20mm spacers for the rear wheels and 2x OEM 18" rear wheels to make my set square. I have to check with the free camber mod whether or not I can make it work on stock suspension. Also, likely going to buy an OEM strut brace in the near future since mine didn't come with one.

OBC is getting very close to the 7500 mark so I ordered her first oil change under me, as well as requested an Oil Analysis kit from Blackstone just so I can baseline my records.

LSB FTW

I remember the Impulse. Reminded me of the VW Scirocco.

Great find with that mileage. Mine has 118k and is running strong.

I'm guessing you work for Nissan? My dad worked for Nissan and Calsonic for years.

Looking forward to your progress.

Yes, I started here 1 year ago. I'm hoping to catch yours around town sometimes as well.

Changed the oil this past weekend and sent a sample off to Blackstone for a baseline.

I took off the undercarriage tray and noticed a bit of accumulation around the front corner of the oil pan, and built up on the PS lines that sit below it. I'd be surprised if this magically started up since the PPI 5 months ago, but it also leads me to believe the pan was removed to do the rod bearing recall that I only have verbal confirmation of . Hopefully the Blackstone analysis will clear the air on that.
