Default K&N 57 Intake Dyno Results

Okay, so these results were brought up in a post in a different thread but I think they're worthy of their own thread. Basically, the intake was tested and shown to have a gain of 11 hp and 6 ft/lb of tq bolt on and 17 hp and 9 ft/lb of tq with the 'powerchip' tune. On a personal note, I thought this was interesting because my car has the shark injector tune (came with the car). The point is: I've always heard bad things about this intake (lowers power, heat soak, filter is terrible, etc.) 1. It obviously adds power 2. you can solve the heat soak by buying the ECIS heatshield and some material to block it off from the engine bay and even buy an intake temp. sensor relocation kit because racecar 3. Buy the ECIS filter

There you have it folks! Well documented evidence that proves the K&N doesn't seem as bad as everyone makes it out to be. Hope this helps for people looking to get this intake for its awesome sound, reasonable price and a little bit more power.

Thanks for posting this thread! I've never had any issues with this intake! I use the oiled filter and no modified heat shield and i've never had any ses lights or heat soak. I don't see how this intake could loose power. The open filter design obviously flows better and the air isn't that much hotter. Also, most race cars like spec miata have done a lot of dyno testing and they all agree that open filter designed intakes increase HP.

^I've got to +1 that...more surface area = more flow = more power
