Smile Brake upgrade: F10 M5 front brakes on E46 M3

Tested 2012 M5 front brakes on my E46 M3 ZCP yesterday at Mid-Ohio Ofest and they worked great!! I designed and machined my own brackets and spacers after buying stock M5 calipers, rotors, and pads from Kelly BMW. See attached photos. The rotors are 385 x 36 mm (I had to reduce the OD from 400 mm to fit inside 19x9" ET44 BBS CHR wheels). The stock pads worked ok lap after lap from up to 135 mph top speed, but now that I know Motorsport has track pads the next step is to get some or have some pads made in the US. It's fun to have factory M5 Brembo performance for a lot less than similar Brembo BBK kits on the market! The caliper color almost matches my Interlagos blue too.

Quite the first post!

Very cool. How much were they from the dealers? Shocked less than a Brembo BBK.
Anything done to the rear?

Wow, very nice. Iv'e seen those brake in person, and they are sexy. Plus, you just can't go wrong with Brembo's.

The rotors, calipers, pads, and hoses were $3K from the dealer. They were nice and gave me the BMW CCA member discount. I spent about 10 hours in the machine shop and spent about $150 on materials.

It's a neat idea and props to you but unless someone has machine skills, to pay someone else to build the parts to adapt this would but it above a BBK kit.

I think stoptech trophys are $3500.

For someone with know-how, that is an awesome project and cheaper than I expected.

Very nice. Care to share any more details on the conversion - spacing on the rotors matching up, offsets, etc?

The F10 M5 rotors are significantly wider and have more offset so I made 7 mm thick spacers that fit between the hubs and the rotors. Then I made spacer rings to move the rotor and wheel pilots outboard 7 mm. The wheels are ET44, or about 7 mm more than what is normally used on an E46 M3. I used longer lug bolts to maintain stock thread engagement in the hubs.
