Arrow Post cat o2 Sensor and header software

So my SES turned on a few weeks ago. At first it was on for a few mins then off for days. Now it's on all the time I got my codes read twice and both came up bad o2 sensor post right cat. I'm thinking dead sensor. As of now it's not a problem to me becuz I'm going to catless headers and race software in te next few months. The big question is will the race software(like epic or evolve) turn off that sensor or should I just get a new one and put it in when I do the headers? And is the bad sensor going to lower my mpg?

Thanks guys
