Default My Harman Kardon system has no bass?

Hello M3forum,

Basically my Harman Kardon system almost has no bass. My buddy owns a Non HK M3 his car has plenty of bass and does sound better than mine. I bought some HK speakers on the forum its still the same.

Also his speakers are stock from BMW we checked everything do you guys know what could be the issue is there a fuse?

if you have a ski bag make sure the "sub door" is closed securely. when i have skis in the car i lose all bass, once I take them out and close the ski bag back up it goes back to normal. hope this helps.

I thought that this was an accepted problem with the HK speakers. I have the same and I also have almost no bass. Needless to say, I haven't listened to any hip-hop in a while...

6x9's in the rear suck ass. Our system is barely better than that of an E38's, and they had DSP.

Consider upgrading; the effort and cost is realistically minimal. The HK system uses 16 gauge conductor and the battery is in the trunk. All you'd need to do is add amp(s) and a sub box while replacing the speakers.

I upgraded mine with Polk DB 6501 in the front and on the rear deck, and two 840DVC subs in the back. These have separate highs with independent, adjustable crossovers. I added two amps and kept the factory one with a summing unit. There are three amps. The rest of the HK speakers are still there and functioning in tandem with the new system. Buying E46 speaker adapters alleviates the big headache of fitting aftermarket components to BMW's ridiculous 3-screw mounts

Total cost was about $500 installed. If you like music, you'll be rather impressed with what you could do building off the factory system.

obviuos question...but is your sub activate button (whatever it is called) turned on, on your console? The one with the picture of a speaker on it?

Honestly, I find the HK system sounds very good as long as you have a digital source ie. CD, Ipod .

I don't listen to hip hop or crap (oops) i mean rap

If you want a good overall fix to your problems go buy these.

I have them attached to a 400x4 JL amp. Perfect amount of bass, not crazy, but not too little.

I think you'll have to get them 2nd hand... I'm not sure if JL makes them anymore.

And its not a "sub activate button" all that button does is give you a simulation of being in a larger space. Lets call it a "surround sound" "effect" or something.
