Default Is This a Good Buy?

A 2002 M3 E46, Steel Grey on black (SMG) , 47,000 miles, for $21k.

The guy was an ///M enthusiast, but never really drove it. He babied the **** out of it. Interior is MINT. No seat marks, back seats have never been sat in. Also has Forgeline 3-peice wheels, maintenance is also up to date.

How are the 2002 M3's in reliability, compared to a 2004-5? Is this a good buy?

It's decent compared to all of the others I've been seeing on the market.

I don't think there is much of a difference in reliability between the years. I read somewhere that the earlier cars have a problem that the later one's don't and vice-versa. I don't remember what problem though.

Okay, thank-you. I'll be using it as a DD, no track, either. Not really beating the hell out of it, also.

You'll enjoy the car Steezy. I've been using my '01 that I bought with around 40K miles as a DD as well. Make sure you do a proper PPI. Tell them what you want checked. I went to the local BMW stealership and $300 later they came back with a "report" of what I need replaced. Didn't do any damn tests at all!

Also, look for common failures to negotiate. For example, my mirror had the common "bubble" in it before I purchased, so I haggled down the price a bit.

Good luck!

Thanks buddy. The only problem is that I have no idea what I'm doing. I do know what a PPI is, (Pre-Purchase-Inspection), however, I don't know what to get checked. I'm new to this stuff.

I'd spend less time looking at the seats and listening to stories about how he babied it - and instead get the detailed maintenance records and sit down and go through them - as well as get a PPI and know what the mechanicals are doing.

I was just saying it was in good condition, that's all.
