Default 2 Month Old HP DV7T Hard Drive Gave Up The Ghost Already

Bought a new HP DV7T laptop 2 months ago, Intel Corei7, 10gb RAM, 1 TB HD, etc. Yesterday, I was using the computer everything seemed normal while starting, but then as I went to do things, the computer seemed really laggy (which was odd because it is usually lightning fast) Turned on the computer this morning, and it stopped loading at the BIOS screen. "hard drive not found" Clicking noise coming from the HD area. Failed hard drive after 2 months, HP quality FTMFW. They are sending me out a new HD on Monday, but does anyone on here know if my old HD info is salvageable/any techniques to retrieve the info to the new HD? From my limited knowledge, the HD seems to have suffered a physical failure, not a file corruption, although I'm not sure if that makes it easier to retrieve. TIA

not sure how computer literate you are.. but a tool i use all the time is hirens boot cd.

it has tons of recovery type programs...

also you can try to freeze the drive over night.. put it in a static bag and then inside a plastic bag and seal it...

but be ready to do data recovery onto another drive as soon as you pull it from the freezer

Ummmm...HP didn't make the hard drive. Hard drives die. I've had luck using sata to usb adapters and getting data off dead HDDs.

HDs are built like garbage now days. It's wise to have a couple back up drives for the important stuff.

I have a 1TB Seagate in my bag right now that failed due to a firmware bug...

Had to fight with HP after the HD in my girlfriend's Laptop failed twice (second time was out of warranty after they already replaced one under warranty 6 months prior)

Believe it or not this works like 25% of the time.

yup and if he boots a pc from say a rescue cd or something other than that drive and then tries to just copy the important files his chances will go up even higher!!! i have had people complete an entire image of a failing drive after freezing it overnight and pulling it the next day!!

Most hardware failures occur early. Be glad it's still under warranty.

This is one of the reasons I don't like the idea of TB sized drives. So much data to possibly be lost when the drive crashes and takes out your file table. I would only use internal laptop hard drives for the OS and programs and keep anything important in the cloud or on a more robust external drive.
