Default e46 m3 subframe symptoms and costs

hello, it's been about four months since i've owned my e46 m3. it's 2002 model and i love it so far. i've been googling around and searching around the forum and ran into subframe issues. i did a search on google but nobody is clear about what symptom is like and nobody really posted how much it would cost. i know bmw had a recall on 2009 but fixing it under warranty is expired.

anyways i would like to know how much it would be to install reinforcement kit and what are the symptoms? do bmw offer free check ups? how do i check for myself? thank you all!

I paid $145ish for the TMS kit and $550 to have it welded in. I had no rips though, just a hairline crack starting.

I was quoted $1900 for reinforcement, subframe bushing replacement, RTAB replacement, and parts.

Besides visual inspection, i would like to know the symptoms, if any, of the fault.

My car is currently at the dealer for this concern. I had an open recall for programming and they said they are addressing subframe issues on a case by case basis... whatever that means

The noticeable symptom would be a clicking noise from the rear of the car during front and rear load transfers. Like in my video:

If you're hearing that though, you're subframe is toast. Normal costs to get it fixed? $800-$1200 for reinforcement and small cracks. For bigger cracks you need a whole new floor and you're looking at over $5000 for the repair, mine was $7000.

Wow vongeiss, that one was bad!

For the repair job itself, I got quotes from $1300 - $1500. Add new subframe bushings = $200 + another 2 hours labor roughly.

I had a few hairline cracks welded up and the TMS kit installed for <$1k. This included the cost of the kit.

As most of the members have stated it will most likely run you 1K and up to weld it all in properly. I was lucky enough to have it already done on my car when I bought it but it cost my friend around $2g's! however it was welded by master fabricator Gary Castillo so I am able to sleep at night haha but really OP hairline crack or no crack in the frame at all, it's a big piece of mind to know you and your car are safe driving down the road.
