Try synchronizing the key with the car, maybe it lost initialization...Happened to me on my old M3...worth a shot and it takes 15 sec with the key and the car...

I have a 2001 Vert and my key seems to be losing distance on how far it will work. I think that these things eventually wear out because there is a battery inside the key. It just gets charged by the ignition every time you drive. So the rechargeable battery might have lost its ability to hold a charge over time and use.

This sounds like my problem! Im assuming the fix is to go to the dealer and get a new battery put into the key? Both my keys work when they feel like it (hit or miss) and you have to be right next to the car.

I am not sure that you can open the key without destroying it. It might be a total replacement type of thing which will be a complete ripoff from the stealer.

I saw my friend do this once and I was like "WTF are you doing!?"

I am afraid to ask, but how much do new keys cost?

You can but you have to cut it and glue it back down.
