Default DIY: Flickering headlights, taillights, ground issue FIXED

Past few months, I had issues with my headlights flickering randomly and I was going nuts. Found out that it was ground issue that was caused in tail light section. I just went to pepboys real quick and decided to give it a try. so far so good but I still need to drive little more but here it is anyways.

stuff that you would need
0.250" blade receptacle
strip of size #18
electrical tape
utility knife
pliers

1. open your trunk and take the tail lights off. disconnect the wire and when you look at the wire, brown wire is the ground wire. it is the thickest one out of all the wires.

2. when you look at the the tali light wire, look at where brown wire is going. it should be going into #4 section and follow the metal part and attach receptacle on it. just like this

3. wire the #18 wire to receptacle and attach it to the tail light ground metal just like this.

4. after you did that, go back to trunk, slice open the brown wire and wire around the brown wire and don't forget to put electrical tape around it.

5. after that, just place back together.

Were both headlights flickering before the fix?

well it started out with one headlight flickering and it got worst and both started flickering. it would always go off and on but recently once they were off, they didn't turn back on so i got worried.

if you have this issue, most likely it's your ground problem. so follow my instruction and try it. mine is working good.

There's a TIS on this. If you replace the actually plug it makes the problem go away as well. I replaced my plug and got new ground wires (which I still have plenty of somewhere, because I ordered too many ).

Interesting. Do you have the link to the TIS?

Also, does this issue apply to LED tails as well?

(I found this thread from this one.)

This has been my exact problem and I already went out and bought a new ballast After I installed my new ballast, the other side started flickering and turning off while driving. I thought I was going to have to buy another ballast. I knew that it was too much of a coincidence for both to go out during the same week or so.

Ill try this fix! Thanks

BTW, I have aftermarket LED taillights (eagle eye I believe is the brand). Wonder if this makes a difference...

For me, last night, my passenger-side would flicker or go out momentarily while sitting idle at an intersection and be fine while doing 45MPH on a rough, bump road. So I don't think it's a grounding issue. I think it's a ballast issue. I've ordered two NEW ballasts and will report back once installed to see if there's any improvement.
