Hello everyone,
This started today when I took the car for a drive. When I let off the gas the cars check engine light would pop up and stay on but when I give it gas to accelerate it will go away. I tried to check and see if there were any serious codes but my scanner is being fussy right now. Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem on here. Thanks. -Nate 1995 E36 M3 all stock. M3 dissection in progress

Sorry I couldn't resist....
Obviously your car is telling you something. Never get off the gas! It's a M3 and is not to be driven softly! ![]() MIL light dependent on throttle position is way weird! I wouldn't attempt diagnosis without reading what codes are in the ECU. I would not disco the battery till I had the codes pulled. Good luck, I'm waiting to see if anyone else has seen this before. |

Haha despite being only 18 I'm over the beat the **** out of my car stage :P though I do like to have fun every now and then.
Thanks for the help, I'm going to try reading the codes or doing the stomp test that OBD 1 can do on these cars to read the codes. Ill update as soon as I make any progress. |

Code is 1216 or Throttle Position Switch Fault. Anyone have some insight on this?

Probably just trying to find out if there is a different problem because with the research i just did a lot of people replaced the TPS still to have the same problem.
I found two or so threads showing the same problems as me and the guys simply adjusted the throttle cable and that ended up solving the problem, weird. Weirdest thing of all is the car runs perfectly fine its just the code is being thrown. I did notice a slightly jumpy idle the other week when I drove it though. |
