Default Re: DIY e46 M3 Engine Mounts

I just did this yesterday installing my oem Group N mounts. Thanks OP for your DIY.

Yes to confirm you have to remove the fan shroud and the cabin filter tray. The engine moves up that much that it'll hit otherwise.

The Group N I got were a little taller so it was a bit of a pain to get enough clearance to put them in. If I had to do again with Group N mounts I'd try the drop subframe method.

when you are lifting the engine, you are risking to break the heater hoses... or pull some other cables.
lowering the subframe is much better route IMHO.
i set the engine on engine holder and lowered subframe, replaced mounts and put subframe back - 1 hour job and i didn't take anything else off.

I didn't remove the cabin filter, fan shroud, and intake ducting when I did mine. I did have to remove the strut brace though.

I went a different route and lowered my entire lower subframe, swapped the mounts, and then jacked up the subframe back into place. I don't know if thats easier or harder than what you did but it worked well for me. I never did have to jack up the engine, just the subframe.

Just something to think about I suppose.
Did it look something like this?????

Thanks op for the DIY. I ran into an issue with the install of the rogue engineering motor mounts and had to drop the front subframe. There was no way to jack up the engine high enough.

Great DIY! Also for anyone that's looking at taking this on themselves HERE is a link to the motor mounts and HERE is a link to the Flange Nuts.

Question about the flange nuts, are these nuts that I might be able to get at a hardware store? I forgot to order them when I ordered the motor mounts and all the dealers around me have it as a special order part.

Thank You!

i have to say that i agree this could be an issue. changing the inlet/outlet on the heater hoses is a big pita too.

I'm surprised people are saying you don't need to loosen the fan shroud. You must be crazy.. The blade will press up against the top of the shroud stressing the blade. If it cracks.. well godspeed. Catch a fan blade through the hood.
