Default 2004 M3 Oil Light Reset

I just took home an E46 M3 AW 6MT for myself as a birthday gift(4th of July) and I'm about to do an oil change. How do I reset the oil light service?
When I bought the car it was reading "oil service 9700" and now it's at 9375. I don't know if it's ready for an oil change, but I'm going to do it anyway so that I start fresh.
btw I'm also new to this forum and there's alot of great info so far that has been helpful. Thanks in advance!

wait until it reads "oil service 7500" and do it then. Don't reset the light until you get to 0 or close to it. You will really throw off your maintenance schedule by doing so

Some info on the subject:

And DIY's in case you need help with anything:

Oh, and congrats on the purchase!

Hmmm never thaught of that i always got them to reset the light. Instead at 7500 just tell them to leave it and only reset it when it comes close to 0?

u don't reset it mid oil change. only reset it when it reaches 0.

there is no oil light to change your oil.

there is a oil light to indicate you are low on oil.

yeah but how do i go upon resetting it when it needs to be reset?
oh and thanks. This is by far the best German car I've ever bought or owned. I came from driving a 90 Jetta GLI 16V Volkswagen.

Resetting the service interval (the free way):

-Ignition key must be off

-Press and hold the trip odometer reset button in the instrument cluster (left button), and turn the ignition key to the first position.

-Keep the button pressed for approx. 5 seconds until one of the following words appear in the display: "Oil Service" or "Inspection", with "Reset".

-The service due is shown with "reset" if the coded minimum consumption limit has been reached and resetting is possible. If "reset" is not shown, the minimum limit has not been reached and resetting is not possible.

-Press and hold the reset button again until the word "Reset" begins to flash.

-While the display is flashing, press the left button briefly to reset the service interval. After the display has shown the new interval the following will appear: "End SIA".

-The system can only be reset again after 2.5 gal (10 liters) of fuel have been consumed.

I didn't even know this. Never been an issue for me. I just change my oil every 7500 miles.
