Jack, did you resolve the problem??

I got exact same problem, what you do.

It happens almost every time (If got more than 1,2k rpms),
when im shift 2nd--> *grrrr* 3rd *grrr* <--4th.
Sound is so terrible, that my ears cant take it.
No mater is engine warm or cold and clutch has been changed lately.

Bmw INPA cannot find any error codes..

Any help? Spring, gear position sensor, actuator, fluids, reset, sofware?

It may be the springs, but change them immediately, if you keep hearing this noise your synchro and/or gear will be gone, then it is tranny time.

Yeap, that I worry about all the time.

Does nobody know´s how actuator works? Because all other gears are doing perfect at low&high rpm´s. I that it cannot be actuator which is broken??

Very unlikely to be the actuator. There is a rotational actuator, a proportional hydraulic cylinder - think left to right in the neutral gate, then forward and reverse cylinders. Since 3rd is in the middle of the rotational cylinders orientation, and uses the same forward cylinder motion as 1st and 5th, you'd have problems with one of these gears as well if you had a problem with the actuator getting into 3rd.

Ok, thanks. Do you have that M seq manual some where? I have try to find it, but all links are gone/old.

I so dont want to change hole tranny, but lets try springs first.

Let take this up. Anyone have solution?

My changes are: "new" tranny (1000dollars) or springs (150dollars, inc everything ball, springs, kit etc). Work costs are for tranny 650dollars and for springs 550dollars.

Lets say that, it will NOT work after new springs, then im f***** . Because I have to pay again another 650dollars. So I think its easier to order tranny..

Thats why I need 100% sure answer now (if somebody has it)

my suggestion would be a dealer fix or walk away. If the dealer does it, you will have a warranty on the bmw parts and the labor.

Can you use INPA to fully adapt the transmission? I would start there to see if it completes.
