I have an e46 M3 with the S54 and I have done the valve adjustment in the past on my e46. I have a friend who has an M-coupe with the s54 and he wants me to do the valve adj on his. Q: Any major differnce between the Mcoupe and e46 M3 that I should know about? It appears to be straight forward in fact cylinder 6 looks to be easier to get to than in my e46.
thanks j

It's the same thing, with less parts in the way! Only difference is you have to remove the electric fan to gain access the crank pulley (to rotate the engine). Very easy.

There's no mechanical fan on the E86M so no 32mm fan clutch nut. The electric fan slides out after removing a couple screws and connectors on top.

What size wrench will I need to move the crank in a Z4MC? I'm doing this for a friend so I don't own one to compare to the e46 M3.

The engine hardware is identical. Access is different, as noted, but otherwise they are the same engine, provided you aren't messing around with the DME, which you aren't.

Kaiv did the valve adjustment on my car. He said it was the same procedure once you got to the engine!

You rotate the crank using a 32mm socket.
