Default Code P0340 and P0012?

Hi Guys,

So I had my SES light come on... The car revs WAY slow and boggs down from 2k-5k then takes off again to redline but still not smooth. Hp feels cut in half but the car idles fine, takes off like normal as long as you dont punch it, and starts on the first crank. 1st gear seems to rev all the way through strong... OBdII reader pulled code p0340 and p0012 for intake cam sensor failure but I took the car in to the stealer and they said the same thing but unfortunately the car must have reset the light when they started it and they were only able to pull the stored code for the same camshaft sensor and it did not throw the code while they had it out for a test...They told me to just drive the car for a while and see if it stays off. BUT as soon as I picked it up from the dealer the light came back on and it has stayed on for the last 200 miles. My car is a 2001 M roadster s54 with 22k on it. What do you guys think because through the search I have found conflicting data on whether its the sensor, coils, vanos??

Thanks
Mike

Replace sensor. and go from there. That's what the code is for so it's only essential to start there. I had the same code and opted to replace vanos solenoid ( which is easier, but costs WAY more ) and ended up needing a new sensor. PITA to change, should take a few good hours.

P.S. my car had the same symptoms.

Will do, my nerves are a bit more at ease since you had the same symptoms.

Thanks
Mike
