Default feeler.. for bay area shop

hey guys,

im just trying to get a head count of how many bay area guys are interested in renting a small shop? i was thinking of renting a shop somewhere in the bay area with these amenities.

1) lift (used to install coilovers, oil changes)
2) air compressor (impact guns, air brush work)
3) tire mounter/balancer
4) dj turntables
5) fridge for beer
6) internet access
7) bathrooms

im thinking if we could get like 20 guys to go in on this.. we could have a community shop so we can work on our BMW's. we can all share our knowledge base and tools. this way we can install all our mods for FREE. this could be used a daily hangout/work shop.

im sure between all the local bay area guys.. we have a ton of knowledable people. i for one, use to work at shop when i was in college. i did everything from shocks, tires and stereos.

tell me what you think...

i think we would end up paying more money for some of us in paying the rent then just going to a shop and getting it installed professionally

well, if rent for a 1000sq ft shop is like $1k.. between 20 guys.. it would only be like $50 each. i just thought it would be nice to have a local shop we could all share. i lot of other local guys have brought this issue up a few times.. so i thought i'd share it here on the board..

imagine with all the knowledge base of people we known here in the bay area.. how much work we can do ourselves..

thanks..

i mean im not against it, but then you need to factor in the equpiment fees, the utility bills and insurance as well.

Also do we only use the facility for ourselves? or just anybody who wants help? do we charge people who want help but didnt chip in to help pay for the fees?

nothign against you daytonaviolet these are jsut concerns i would have before chipping in for somethign like this..

if it works out then i guess down and would chip in for this.

realistically though i think we each have to chip in around 150-200 at least for 20 people.

its gonna be a lotta work

just my 2 cents

yes.. i agree with ya.. this will only work..if we have alot of people involved. if this does work.. only members are allowed to use the facility. non-members have to pay a fee of course.. but. that few will be much less then if they were to go to a real shop and get the services done..

this is just a thought..

I think this is a VERY good idea ... at the minimum it's would be a good place for guys to hang out, show the cars, talk mods, etc.

Guys, not to bash or anything but lets say you get 10-20 people to do this........I will bet that it will not happen when its comes to someone needing to sign the lease agreement. Who will risk there credit to sign a lease agreement? Hopefully, you might get lucky and find a place under "month to month" conditions. Even so, you will need to cover cost for Trash, Maintenance, Taxes, Ins etc etc.

Anyway, idea is great.....but I think this would be better suited if someone was totally loaded and willing to donate there garage to you guys. I've seen some mean garages (huge space) that would be perfect for this. I would rather see someone giving up part of there garage and 10-20 guys pitching in to buy a lift and other equipt needed.
(even this would be risky for the homeowner)(probably would need waivers signed before people can work or enter into his garage)(i know i sound like a lawyer but im not...thank god)

Anyway, good luck. Again, Im not trying to bash or kill this idea. Just exposing issues that might come up as you progress with this plan.

I think this is a great idea! But I'm already pretty much modded out. =( Nevertheless, I wouldn't mind just hanging around to help out or provide some of my knowledge from working on my car.
