Well like it says, I'm considering purchasing a used set of billies with about 60k miles on them. How do you guys who have had them feel about them in the long run?

Heck, I am getting stupid lowball offers on 20k mile Koni's. What are they asking for 60k mile Bilsteins?

60k miles is quite a bit, even 20k is a good bit of miles. A koni rebuilder charges $125 per corner for koni's more if they are double adjustable.

Are they cosmetically in good condition? Are the seals and shafts clean and are the shafts still mirror polished and smooth? Is there any evidence of leaking and do the all push firmly out to full length? If they pass these tests chances are good that they will go another 60K before you even have to think about them again. Both Koni and Bilstein dampers will easily go 100K+ without any trouble and if they are installed right and kept clean much more. My old VW GTI had 375K on a set of Koni Sport struts and rear dampers and they were still in perfect operating condition when I gave the car to my nephew 15 years ago. Both Billie and Koni can easily be rebuilt for reasonable prices and usually you can get them to replace bad or failing dampers for 50% off. HTH! |

All depends on what the asking price is to justify having to change your suspension and saving money over new.
