i remember seeing that video. we've had a few hail storms in my area recently. luckily, each time my car was garaged. my buddy's RS4 had intense hail damage with golf ball sized hail about a month ago. and the aluminum didn't help much...

Many. Fairly commonplace in North Texas, where I grew up, and I saw a few smaller storms in Central Cali when we lived there. The ones in Texas could be brutal... I've seen golf-ball sized hailstones and larger.

Btw, largest hailstone on record was found last month:

http://blogs.woodtv.com/2010/07/30/w...d-hailstone-2/

"8.0 inches in diameter, 18.625 inches in circumference, and weighed in at an amazing 1.9375 pounds!"

Luckily the few I have been in involved pea or pebble sized hail, and it didn't last more than 15 minutes. Each time I worried my car would take a beating. The worst of it was the headlight housing getting a bit dinged up.

I was driving one day and it started raining marbles, made me pretty nervous about dings in the M but they were small enough that they didn't damage anything.
