Default Anyone have experience reducing E46 weight?

Lots of expensive modifications to increase hp but loosing weight is the cheapest mod. Anyone have a list of items that can be removed and their weight?

Passenger seat, rear seat, get racing driver's seat (Sparco, or the like), lightweight exhaust (ie, Eisenmann Ti), Carbon Fiber trunk and hood, lightweight wheels (major difference), thats all I can think of now, but Im sure people will start posting, this is a very common thing to do. Hope I helped.

I have light weight wheels that saved me about 50 lbs with all four. Front seat was about 50 lbs. The folding portion of the rear seat was about 35 lbs. I also have a light weight battery that is about 14 lbs, about a 35 lbs lighter than the stock battery. My car was 3130 with about 3 gallons of fuel the last time it was on the scale at the dragstrip.

As I recall the weight reduced at the wheels is most significant due to the power required to "spin" the weight. Anyone have details about this?

Yes, weight reduced at the wheels helps the most because rotating mass is multiplied or something like that. I'm not too sure on the details about it, but the less rotating mass, the better. That's why engine builder try and get as little rotating mass in the crank as possible.

PM Scott like many others have suggested. He probably knows the most on the board about lightening up your car, and he's a great guy.

Wink

What about no sunroof? Any ideas on the weight savings with no sunroof? I would guess at least 75-100 lbs with out the glass, tracks and motor.
