Default Slickfast's 1999 Techno Violet M3 Coupe

Car Specifications:
-Coupe: Techno Violet/Dove
-Made in January 1999
-3.2L 5-speed Manual
-Came with just-installed Goodyear Eagle F1 AS tires
-H/K Sound w/ 6 cd changer in the trunk
-Sunroof
-Keyless entry with alarm
-High-spoiler installed at factory

Welcome to my journal page! I've had my car for about a year, but just decided I should have one of these pages so I can keep track of what parts have been installed/replaced, etc.

And so the story begins...

I found this car sitting right outside the building I was working in for a summer internship at Sikorsky Aircraft. I had always seen it and admired it, but recently I saw a FOR SALE sign on it reading "52k miles, No mechanical problems, 100% stock." No price. That description had me hooked though, and I called up the number.

Got a test drive the next day. It was a VP's car, and he was replacing his daily. It had been driven daily (except winters), and garaged at work and at home. He had all the papers since he bought it 7 years prior at 25k miles, CPO. The PO was amazingly nice to me, and let me lend it for 3 weeks until I had enough money to pay for the thing, and to let me decide if I wanted it. I took it the first week of August, 2008, and bought it for $14,000 on September 1 after going through the car with a very fine tooth comb. It was a fantastic deal at the time, and way less than what I thought I was going to spend.

Problems at purchase:
-Slight dent right behind the passenger's side door. Look in pictures.
-Glovebox button fell out
-Seatbelt pivot cover was missing
-Clutch pedal squeaked
-Shifter didn't illuminate
-"Brake light circuit failure" message showed up about once a month
-Driver's side window didn't go up automatically (switch had to be held down)
-Front roundel was starting to deteriorate
-Rear "M" emblem was faded
-Buzzy driver's side midrange

Pictures during 3 week "decision time" after quick wash and detail:

I spent a while just oogling over the car, as it was far above anything I had ever had. My prior cars were as follows:

1985 VW Cabriolet - Wolfsburg Edition

Specifications:
-1.8L 5 Speed
-Two-tone leather interior
-Newly replaced navy-blue canvas top
-Picked up with ~85k miles

Wonderful, wonderful car. It sounded fantastic when you got on it, burbled beautifully when you coasted in gear, and handled like a dream. This is the reason I was looking for a MINI Cooper S when I picked up the M3: nimble handling. Loved this car.

Unfortunately we had to get rid of it. Being a VW, it had way more than its share of problems: two fuel pumps were put in, the new top was due to a leak, the heat was ALWAYS on (made for a great excuse to put the top down though), door locks were a bit screwed up, and it had a cold-start issue we couldn't track down. We sold it for $3500. I still wish we hadn't gotten rid of it.

That put us on a search for a new car for me and my dad. He needed a wagon for work, and I wanted a stick for play. We settled on a Volvo since my mom's nearly new S70 was a fantastic car. After quite a while of searching we found it:

1995 Volvo 850 GLT Wagon
Specifications:
-2.4L 5 speed
-Metallic Red/Black Leather
-Sunroof, Powered/memory/heated seats
-Picked up with 100k miles

Everything about this car was perfect. The seats looked like they were at 20k miles instead of 100k. It's great for what it is: a mid-range luxury car. It's adequately fast, comfortable, and every single thing works. It got me through the rest of my high school years, and we still have it. Good car.

Bavarian Auto Meet!

This was my first chance to connect with some forum people (Kevin, Don, and Andrew) and to get to see some other bimmers. Great show! We had a little photoshoot after the show with Kevin's Alpine Coupe and Andrew's Avus DINAN S3 Coupe:
