Really? What specifically do you like about the M3 better than the M coupe (I'm assuming its an E86?). Are the handling and overall driving characteristics that much different? I drove my friends 05 M3 SMG and it was a blast. Didn't drive it around much cause I was visiting him in LA. I've toyed around with getting a E46M3 and making it a dedicated track toy.

For me its easier cause I have the E85 M Roadster so its my weekend cruise/occasional autox (stiff but not as rigid as the M coupe, loved the lines of the coupe but had to try a convertible for the first time.)

But for you which is the daily driver?

I personally don't really do a whole lot of autox...so I don't mind giving up some rigidity

I hope I don't regret it......but that can be said of every purchase

Yes, it is an e86. I posted a couple pics higher in the thread. My coupe is stock still and only has about 6,000 miles. If I could do it over I would go for the convertible too, but that is nothing to split hairs over. The m coupe is a LOT of fun on the street. It's fast and handles excellently. At autox it understeers like a pig. I don't know if it's the tires, suspension, or if I just can't figure out the air pressures. My e46 is very lightly modded (read: coilovers and sticky tires) and the car is so much more neutral. On the street they are both great, but when pushing the car around tight parking lot turns the coupe really shows its weaknesses. The understeer and then the low roof makes me sit very far down to fit with a helmet (I'm 6'). The car has a huge hood (both long and high) so getting around the course is definitely much different then the m3 because the sight lines are totally different. Being in the coupe gives you a weird perspective of the track, but it isn't that bad.

I daily the m3. It's an 01 and has about 85k. Its worn, but still a great car. We'll see what happens in the future. What direction I wind up going. I can't say I see any modding in my future. I've spent too much on maintenance on the m3 this year to mod the coupe. I'd like to do all the suspension mods (it looks amazing lowered on stock wheels imo) and throw some new tires on it, but I don't know if I'll be keeping it long enough to justify that. I'd love to jump into an e90 m in the next 3 years or so we'll see. That would probably replace both cars.

It's not so much the rigidity... They're just totally different cars. If you mainly drive street, I'm sure the roadster will be satisfying. Just make sure it's the right choice for you... and throw some Dunlop d1 ss tires on it.
