Default Air Filter Installation

Quick question about replacing the OEM air filter. When I was trying to get everything seated down and clamped in place, I noticed that it was requiring a little more elbow grease than it should have. When I opened it back up, in the back corner nearest the engine, the airbox lid was pressing on the middle of the urethane seal/gasket instead of being on the sides of it. And because of this, it started to cut the seal on the outside edge. And now a small part of it (maybe 1/4-1/2'' long) is semi-loose. Imagine someone making a single cut with a pair of scissors, its still attached but cut. I corrected this and got it aligned correctly. My question is, is there any risk of the "loose" piece getting sucked into the motor, or is it secured within the seal channel?

Picture...

As you can see, the seal is now cut due to how I had the airbox originally set on it. I imagine that the airbox lid is designed with a channel that runs around the outside of it. So the seal (pink) would not be subject to any kind of suction. But then again... thats why I am asking.

Streamline is on the "To-Do" list. And thanks for the response. I am just overly ana.... particular/paranoid about things. So I wanted to drop a post and check to be safe

If you ask me, air filters being replaced only on inspection 2 seems long. My old filter was extremely dirty and I only have 44,000 on the car.

it should be fine man as long as there is no hole on the filter itself.

Yeah I know the filter is ok. My concern was whether or not there was a chance the cut portion could be ripped off from the suction of the intake and thrown into the motor. I went back and looked again. It seems like the foam seal is pretty well locked into the airbox lid. So I dont think its going anywhere.

You'll be fine. But if you're worried why not stick some quality glue in the cut and let it dry before replacing into your car.
