Default Rear View Mirror Question - To the ones who've had them replaced

This is a question to people who have replaced their faulty Oval or Square auto dimming mirrors in their M3s.

I was wondering if the refurbished ones are better and more reliable, than the original ones that were in the cars we got. My original one went pretty quick...car was built sometime in 2005...when I got the car in 2008, it was broken already, so I presume that it has been out for a while already. My old E46 325i with the auto-dimming function worked perfectly the 4 years I've owned it. I really loved the technology at that time, and I haven't seen any other cars that failed like the M3 did. So, in an effort to see if it is reliable, can people post

1) When they got their replacement mirror...
2) Through the dealership or through Sybesmas...
3) If it is still working as it should be or not...

I'll go first...

1) I got mine today and installed it
2) Through the help of Sybesman
3) It is still working...although I noticed that the dimming towards the corner takes a longer time to subside...never noticed this in my old E46 325i

i was going to go this route as my square mirror went bad after 5yrs or so. i was able to get a used oval mirror and retrofitted it to work with my bmw assist setup. i just think the oval looks 10x better then the square mirror if you not planning on using the bmw assist. but.. from what i heard, the refab ones work just like the oem ones in terms of the auto dimming feature.

I got mine replaced at the dealer under warranty, told my SA that is was leaking acid and they swapped it out for me under the $50 deductible.

when did you have it replaced? How long have you been using it? And is it still in proper working condition?

1) When?
2) Through the dealership extended warranty with $50 deductible
3) Still working?

If it is under the warranty, you must bring it on to your dealer...

I've always had the oval mirror. I've got mine replaced last year and almost 2 years before that. Always done at the dealership and fully covered by the warranty.

i just want to know if this is something that needs to be done every other year...or if the refurbed ones are better and lasts longer. I am sure one day Sybesman will stop doing it, and BMW will stop honoring warranty claims...and for people who want to keep the car longer, this will surely be an issue.

Same here but I installed mine today Man it's cool.. I bought the car and it had the bubble mirror, autodim didnt work at all. Tested my new one out and wow... awesome.

I hope it lasts.. it looks exactly the same as the old one so i don't know if it's different internally?

cheers

I don't see any bubbles but the auto-dimming hasn't appeared to work since I bought the car in late '07...
