Default Is the 1.8k rpm rattle normal?

I know alot of us have been hearing this metal rattle whenever the engine is at 1.8k rpm (specifically 1.8k for some odd reason)...you also feel your car shake / hesitate a little at that specific rpm.

My question is, is this normal? I just had inspection II done last week, the service advisor told me the tech who was working on my car couldnt replicate the noise, and that he also had to go under the car so anything loose under there must have been re-tightened...

Also on a side note, I'm noticing this weird rasp also at 1.8k rpm, its only audible when I'm right next to a wall where the sound can bounce off and be heard through the driver side window...could it be a loose rasp pipe?

Default Re: Is the 1.8k rpm rattle normal?

sorry to bring up this old thread... but I have the EXACT SAME symptoms...

I know this person got his whole transmission replaced and it went away... but I am thinking there is another way.. Mine is a SMG, and I am hoping that there is something specific to fix rather than the whole entire tranny....

Anybody have/had these issues? What did you do to get ride of it?

becuase the whole car vibrates while making the rattle sound when decelerating and reving at exatcly 1.8k rpm I am thinking it could be a vaccum leak?

Thanks again for any response.
