Default S54 with 3.4 Stroker Kit

Anyone build or have experience with a stroker S54 motor?
Here is one kit I found:
http://www.vacmotorsports.com/catalo...troker-kit.htm

I realize FI is the way to go bang for buck, but this is cheaper than turbo and SC generally sucks for mid range grunt which is what is fun to drive on the street.

if you search there were some dudes that did do a big BHS motorsports NA build i remember.

For that much money though you are better off just getting a supercharger. plenty of power for the street.

I did search before I posted... I must have had a typo, because yeah I came up with a lot more hits just now... ooops!

Anyway, I don't like S/C as it just isn't efficient compared to turbo. Turbo scavenges exhaust gas to make boost... recycling is a much greener process

The best solution for grunt may be what you suggested on another stroker thread, LS swap... even though none of the options makes any sense financially.

No its cause this site has been around for years and soooooooooooooo many threads have been posted on EVERY topic imaginable for the E46 M3 that a few things happen. #1 the search feature is overwhelmed and damn near useless at this point due to all the threads. And #2 damn near EVERYTHING is a "repost" now seeing how the car has been around since 01.

Stroker in this context refers to increasing engine displacement via custom crankshaft for longer stroke...

How long is a rope?

All things equal, gains would be proportional to displacement increase, but there are so many variables you can't generalize. I was thinking ~6% gain with mid-range torque to perhaps be more (15%) going from 3.2 to 3.4 on the S54... but searches reveal most of the engines are built for top end and more extensive internal work than I was thinking compared back to my youth and modding VW water cooled 4's with the cheap cranks available.

You're right, but interestingly, there has been very little firsthand info on stroker kits for the E46 M3. Actually, I am not sure if there are any at all. BHS posted info about a high-compression (12.5:1? running on race gas) motor build, and some preliminary/sketchy info on the stroker kit, but then it all just died away. Whenever someone brings up the topic of a stroker kit for the E46 M3, without exception someone just says SC/Turbo as a better alternative for gains/bucks ratio, and it all goes away. This is in stark contrast to the E30 M3 community with a lot of owners who have done a 2.5L conversion and are very happy with it (based on my read of s14.net).

Stroked & blown.... sounds like a good combo to me. All that's required is a cigarette afterwards.
