think about it, if you were working for BMW and wanted to sell as many of the new Z4s as you can, why would you announce the M 1-2 years before it comes out? I remember when they said no M last time and I went out and bought the 255 hp 3.0, 1 1/2 years later the Ms come out along with the Coupe. Now have a M coupe and will keep it until the new Z4 M comes out in 2 years. Just like they said no 1 series M, I bet you that when the 1 series is redone (2011 model year I think) they will make an M the next year, maybe just throw the M on there with no 1 just like the coupe and roadster.
You will probably see a V6 turbo or even a smaller V8 turbo in it (wonder if that 400 horsepower turbo V8 from the X6 and new 7 will fit). Thats the engine the M3 should have had! |

The reason there is no new Z4M in the works right now is because the current powerplant in the M3 (V8) will not fit in the new Z4 design (its just to big) so they dont have a powerplant for a Z4M yet...
The talk is they will bring out the Z4M version after the M3 changes to the new twin turbo motor and use that same motor for the Z4M...

I wonder if the 4.0 v8 would fit in the old Z4? That would be a really cool swap!

There was an article in Autoweek (I'm almost certain) that discussed this topic and there is NOT going to be an ///M version of the z4. The sales weren't so great of the previous version, and the car weighs a too much with the hardtop roof (thereby ruining its performance as it does for the current M3 'vert, which weighs 133 pounds more than the M5).
So, no Z4 M. However, there are juicy rumors of BMW reconsidering the Z8 for the future.

Agreed. made me laugh at the first few responses to this thread. I hope there is a next generation M coupe. Should be a beast if there is.

First, the old/current Z4 M coupe has more space in it's engine bay that you could probably put to S54s in there. No joke, there is a lot of room. (or maybe you didnt know there was already a Z4M by the wording you chose). Second, The new Z4 looks like it has just as long a front end if not longer so it should fit in my personal opinion.

Now I take this iwth a grain of salt, as BMW is untrustworthy about these things, but the previous 2 times BMW said there would be no M, no one used this excuse. Then again, the new Z4 is based on the current 3-series chassis, same as previous generations, so I don't get why the V8 would fit the E92 M3 and not the E89 Z4. Time will tell.
