Default Unpairing BT phone (without pairing button)

Is this possible? My 06 has bluetooth from the factory (and thus no cradle/pairing button).

I recently switched from the original iPhone to an iPhone 3G. Same SIM, same contacts, same phone number, etc. Talking works, but when I try to use the phonebook, the screen is stuck on "LOADING PHONEBOOK!" no matter how long I wait.

I can easily unpair/repair the phone, but I think something has gotten jumbled in the car's bluetooth memory and I need to clear the phone data out of it and start over. I assume pulling the fuse or disconnecting the batt doesn't clear out the bluetooth pairing/address data.

Seems like it should work, I was always under the impression that it loads the complete phonebook each time anyway.

Have you updated the contacts at all? maybe there is a badly formatted one that the TCU is choking on.

Also, you should be able to delete the pairing info on the phone and the repair.

How long are you waiting for it to load the phonebook (and how many contacts)?

i think the first time you pair the iphone (2g or 3g) its takes like 15min or more to get all the contacts the first time.

wait, so how do you pair a phone with your TCU since you have no pairing button? Isnt there a pairing mode that you somehow activate?

I have a ULF so I am not sure exactly how to do this on a TCU, but to clear any paired data from my car, I have to first enter pairing mode. I then press and hold the pairing button for 10-12 seconds and release. I get a message on my nav that paired devices have been erased. I am sure you have something similar. If you know how to enter pairing mode, you should be able to do this.

i have a TCU with no pairing button. upon car startup, the TCU searches for anything that is already paired. i believe the TCU can pair up to 5 different phones at the same time.

ahh. didnt know that pairing was automatic with TCU's. I am sure there is a way to clear all paired phones though. What happens if you are a new owner and you need to pair a phone when 5 phones have already been paired? Maybe you can go through the nav and clear them out. Maybe try pressing the telephone button on the nav for 10 seconds???? just a guess though!

I removed all contacts except for one and tried again. Still got stuck. I've waited anywhere from 10 minutes to a 2-3 hour trip. It never changes from "LOADING PHONEBOOK."

What may have happened was that the *first* time I brought this phone into the car, I accidentally shut it off before the transfer was done. I've read on a few posts on other sites that this can cause problems.

There must be a way to unpair everything though... I'll see if the dealer can help (unlikely).

chasem3: To answer your question -- if you have 5 phones paired and the car detects a new one, it will just bump out the first phone you paired and add the new phone.

Ask your question about unpairing a phone (or resetting the TCU) over at the bluetooth forums at both X5world.com and Bimmerboard.com. Both have very knowledgeable people.

I also agree that disconnecting your battery for a few minutes may reset the TCU, it's worth a try.

With respect to the process of pairing a phone to a TCU, the TCU is automatically in pairing mode for about 2-3 minutes after you start the car. If you start the car and immediately initiate a search with your phone, your phone should see the TCU, then start the pairing process with your phone and it should ask for the TCU pairing key (which of course you have to know).

If you phone times out without seeing the TCU, immediately re-initiate the search, my phone sometimes times out during the first search, but if it does it finds it the second time. If you can't find the TCU device with your phone, then it would imply something is wrong on either the phone or TCU end.
