I'm a first time BMW owner, and I bought a 2002 m3 convertible due in MAY2002 delivery. I ordered the SMG box. Can anyone tell me how it is? Was it worth ordering and paying the extra $2500?

I haven't driven the SMG, but I was talking to a guy this weekend who has a 2001 and he loves the SMG. Says it shifts incredibly fast and the paddle shifters are great.

Enjoy it. I'm still sawing through 5 cogs on my 98!

SMG is fun. Theres a small learning curve you have to get past though before you'll become smooth. You should probably go test drive an M3 with the SMG gearbox to make sure you actually like it.

The SMG usually tends to be a love or hate type thing. I think its fun, shifts lightning fast, rev matches for you, even launches for you. I just find it less involved than standard shift, which is what I prefer.
