Default Buffer Help

Okay, so I know NOTHING about buffers but I want one. I just need help finding one that fits me. I have read other threads about this, but everyone seems to kind of have an idea of what they're doing. I have no idea. I want a buffer thats going to last me in the long haul. Now I don't even know if this is true, but i've heard if a buffer is used incorrectly, the clear will come right off. Any truth to that? To myself, it looks like a difficult job because I have seen some cars that have been buffed terribly and you can see swirls and lines the buffer left. Is it even a good idea to buy one if you don't know what your doing? Anyone want to throw their in? Please feel free to make fun of me because I feel like the only M3 driver that has no idea what to do when it comes to this...

Thanks

*Edit* I've read that the Flex XC 3401 VRG is a good beginers one...

I've been pleased with my Porter Cable 7424... seems to be a very popular choice for its ease of use & resistance to burning paint (since it is a random orbital).

That's amazing I didn't know your car is your DD? You wouldn't be able to tell. I currently own Werkstat products and love the way they come out when I hand wax it. I have the werkstat Prime, Acrylic Jett Trigger and the Acrylic Gloss. http://www.werkstat.com/prime.php Would I use the Prime and the Jett Trigger with the 7424, or only one of them? What pads do you reccomend? Thanks

That article has some advice on pads. It really depends on the condition of your paint. Every one uses different products based on car color and in my opinion it's somewhat trial and error as to what gets you the best results.

There are some other guys on here that I am sure would not my socks off with how well they detail cars - e.g. CMT, Phil... They might be able to inform you better.

My car is my DD for now. I have had it for 5 years. Some how it made it through college still alive and in pretty good condition. She does have 173k miles on though, so she is getting up there.

Tomorrow more people might be able to recommend products.
