Default What the Dealer charged me... (Part II)

I had my '04 M3 serviced for the first time since I've owned it and one of the costs were:

1. 'bleeding the brakes': $117.00

They had already changed the front brake pads and rotors and threw that charge in there at the last minute. by calling me at work. I had notified my uncle who had been working on European cars all his life and has been with PORSCHE forever and he was surprised...

I was just thinking of opening up a separate thread where people can list what they had done and cost...just to help new owners see what they're getting into.

I understand that it costs to keep these cars up but for the dealer to play games with me every time I bring in my car is ridiculous...

time for you to visit

m3.madrussian.net

or its time for you to find some local Independent BMW shops. Also, Tonggi on the board will do oil changes + oil and filter for $80 and hes located in Edison NJ.

Pretty much, my dealer charges me $90 for an oil change. Prestige BMW in Paramus/Ramsey NJ.

Brake fluid flush (change) is a 2 year interval item. Since you have an '04, it should have been done sometime in '05 or '06 (it's 2 years from date of manufacture) - and then is due again now.

This is a surprise why? Haven't opened your owners manual and looked at the maintenance schedule?

I suspect your uncle who had working on European cars all his life and with PORSCHE forever - if he opened his PORSCHE manual might just find that they also specificy a regular brake fluid flush. And bet it would cost more on your uncle's PORSCHE than $117.00.

Brake fluid flush is one of these "pay it now or pay it later" things. Fluid absorbs water - which corrodes components causing them to fail if not flushed.. or causes you to crash if the fluid boils and you loose brakes. You can ignore it.. but I woudn't.

He wasn't surprised at the work done..he was surprised that they charged me bec. Porsche doesnt even charge for that.

Trust me, with all the Porsche plaques on his wall, Im sure he doesnt have to open a manual.
