I currently have a 95 m3 which I love dearly. I have recently put her off daily driver duty and will be working on her garage queen status. It will be hard but i will be looking to replace her in the next year or so and am in love with the m coupe, so my question is if the extra money for 315 hp s54 worth it. All replies will be greatly appreciated.

S54 M coupes are sweet, but they have 3.15 rear ends and a 5-speed. S52 mcoupes have the same gearbox, but a 3.73 diff. 6 to one, half-dozen to anther. If you're up for finding a rare bird, go after an S54 m coupe without a sunroof - there's only about 600 of them.
good luck, bro!

I had a S52 MCoupe before I got my M3. I had a friend with a S54 MCoupe and I must say that the top end was pretty damn nice. However, given BMW NA's stance on the MCoupe about S54 motors blowing up makes me a bit leery. Yes there have been people that have gotten BMW to replace the motor after suffering the rod bearing failure but it wasn't without a fight in most cases (that I heard of anyway).
From a line the S52 will hold up til about 80mph or so, then the top end of the S54 comes into play. If I still had my MCoupe, I would go FI on it and be happy. |

I've got one (sunroof delete) and I LOVE IT!
The car is so interesting and fun to drive. Eric and Evan at enthusiastauto.com can find you one... if you are looking. Great guys to work with. Peace Quote:

The S54 is significantly faster. An upgrade to a 3.73 LSD can be had for $125, out of an E30... or you can go the custom build route for over a grand. 690 coupes produced between 2001 and 2002.

Yeah, there were less than 690 S54 M Coupes produced through its two-year lifespan for all of North America. Very very rare indeed and quite a few have been sent to car heaven already. |

I've had both. I thought the 2000 with the S52 was the better car. Not due to power, more of power to chasis quality. I had a lot of problems with my 01 M Coupe, bought it new. Nothing is wrong with either cars though.
