Default I fail to understand

Why people shell out uber amounts of money for "genuine OEM CSL" parts...

Fill me in fellas, what's the point?

As if modding this car isn't expensive enough, some people really feel the need to spend double for parts that will still never make their car a true CSL...???

I know there are a lot of OEM people, but what is the real benefit of sourcing OEM CSL? I see a lot of people point out how they have genuine CSL this and genuine CSL that. I am just confused as to why getting real CSL stuff is that important.

Yup, this is likely to start a debate, but please enlighten me.... It's Friday before a long weekend, and I'm bored at work

In my opinion, yep it's nice to have "the real deal"... But at the price tag for those items, and the knowing that you still don't have a CSL M3, it's not worth it.

I agree man. So they made a CSL version that's not imported. Do we really need to spend hundreds and thousands of dollars on consoles, seats...etc. I have the trunk and diffuser and the only people who know it's not OEM CSL are the handful of dudes I see at the meets every now and again. Stand back 5 feet and noone knows. But some people are really into nothing but OEM which is cool, just not me. I'd rather save the extra $$ for suspension, tires, brakes...etc. I don't consider Vorsteiner products like a cheap knockoff sneaker or something. (Gotta love the fake Adidas shell tops!!)

And sure the other side of the coin is fitment, which is as a legitimate gripe. My V-CSL trunk fits great and only took a small time to adjust. To each his own I guess.

oem csl parts imo is not worth it. there are replica csl parts that fit great.
BUT! there are parts out there (non-csl) that don't fit that well and going oem and paying more is the only way to really to avoid headaches is to pay the extra money and get oem.

what's the point of modding for appearance at all? to satisfy individual preference. is any of it worth the money?

if you're talking about OEM CSL vs. replica CSL parts, my guess is some people would probably say the fit is better with an OEM boot lid than a vorsteiner one.

There are no fitment issues with OEM parts

Even though Vorsteiner is regarded as the best csl replica vendor, many members have experienced fitment issues with various parts.

You just cant beat OEM

Fitment and prestige.

That said, there are many cases I would take aftermarket or stock over OE CSL

Trunk-- aftermarket is lighter

battery-- can get lighter batteries that perform just as well

exhaust -- still a heavy bastard, still small tips, still raspy

Wheels-- Cast, heavy, don't clear BBK. RG4s cost less, are stonger, clear BBKs, fit bigger tires, and look the same

Rear control arms-- OE are weak and not adjustable

center console-- no armrest

rear seat-- only fits 2 people

steering wheel-- no controls, wears out quickly compared to stock

There are very few cases where I desire OE CSL
