Default Any DIY Verterans have advice on speciality

tools for working on our cars. I have a pretty decent set going just thought I would get some info from what others have found useful. I plan on installing new headers in the near future.

Thanks

You need 6 arms. No lie lol. Just have a nice jack and jack stands and air tools are great especially for the splash guard and for having those flat drivers for hard to reach areas.

I haven't done headers but you'll probably need some universal joint adapters\extentions. These swivel to get in wierd places. Like the one pictured with these sockets.

I know for the rear sway bar you need 2 13mm wrenches, ... Even though I had a pretty nice kit, I still had to run out and buy a 2nd wrench.

BMW key sizes are 8, 10, 13, 16, 17, 18, 21. You at least need these in long/short sockets, and wrenches. You need a 36mm socket for the oil filter, and a 32mm wrench for the fans.

You need a wire cutter to pop the plastic rivets (if you slide it over the head, it'll pull them out very easily and without damage).

Outside of BMW special tools necessary for specialist work, that'd pretty much cover you.

Thanks everyone, so far so good, even got the 36 mm socket today. Anyone know if torque wrench accuracy changes when you start using the funky sockets with different angles and such?

Optimum torque wrench accuracy is aquired by using a shallow socket without any extensions, swivels, wabbly drives etc.

So yes, it certainly does. short extensions and deep sockets dont effect accuracy very much. Dont use any kind of swivel, long extension, wobbly drive extensions or wabbly drive sockets when you are trying to achieve an accurate torque.
