![]() Finally got my tint from the groupbuy, i paid $59 for all 4 stickers. Thx Ron @ ModBargains for the groupbuy! Anyways, installation was a breeze, everything was precut so that helped alot. I used some lysol and windex to wipe the taillights first, then i added a few drops of alcohol on a damp cloth to evaporate all the water left on the taillight. Took an hour or two but the results were great. The tint only blocks 17% of the light to my understanding, so when your lights are on, i don't think you will get into much trouble with cops. However, it looks great when your lights are off, gives you that smoked look. Overall, i was really happy and the 60 bucks really made a difference. |

I like it, but I prefer to not smoke the clear lenses, just smoke the reds. Does the film come in that format as well?

Funny, I just got mine in yesterday too. Thanks for the before/after pic; now I know sorta what to expect. Be interesting to know from other board members if they've ever been popped for tinted tail light lenses specifically.

i was at fig coming out of macdonalds today near USC and a cop was checking out my car. he said the tinted lights look cool, so im guessing most cops are cool about it.

If it's marketed as 17%, that means it allows 17% of the light through

How about a pic in the sun light? It's hard to tell how dark it is in the dungeon you park in.

Im thinking about ordering the standard "tint" as it only blocks 6%, but wasnt sure if it was gonna match my deposmoked front corners in color/tint... I think it will.. and i guess i'll find out soon enough.. you can view their webiste, and they have a gif animation of the different tints offered applied to a e46 tail on this link: http://www.lamin-x.com/BMW-E46-M3-01...s-p/b210-1.htm to anybody contemplating "spraying" their tails with RC rattlecan "smoke" translucent paint... forget about'it, its too hard to due on the clear LED lights... my smoked side markers came out great, but trying to smoke the clear part of the rear tail was a pain in the ass... because the clear led tails are crystal clear it makes for a difficult time in spraying a perfect layer of tint... i managed to get it done perfectly on one tail, but buffed through some tint on another rendering my DIY a FAIL. the curvature of the top section of the rear tail makes for continuity difficulties in sanding and buffing.. best to just drop the $54 for laminex.... i'll subscribe to this thread incase there is any interst is seeing what "6% tint" on the tails of a led equiped e46 looks like.. im ordering them now along qwith a 3rd brake light since my car is a vert.. was also contemplating the tinted fronts(6%) but wasnt sure how my light output would look since i have projector fogs and want the lights to match.. so if anyone can comment on that id appreciate it, cos for now i think im just gonna do the rears.. |
