Exclamation UPDATE - SMG Clutch Slip

Here is a link to the original post http://www.m3forum.net/m3forum/showt...ght=smg+clutch

When I take off from a dead stop (normal acceleration not standing on it) *sometimes* the power to the wheels stutters a little like the clutch is slipping or engaging/disengaging rapidly for about 1 second. not major but enough to notice something is not right. It is a periodic thing as these things tend to go but it has been happening for quite a while. I am not referring to the SMG buck that tries to give you whiplash - this is very subtle.

I mentioned this to the dealer about a year ago and they could find nothing wrong. Recently the problem has become more frequent so I went back to the dealer this week and had someone ride with me so I could demonstrate this to them and get acknowledgement that the problem indeed existed. So we drive the car, a few stops/starts and bingo the clutch does it's thing. My car was due for a SMG software update/recall/whatever so they tell me that will probably fix it. Next day SA calls: after the software update the SMG light illuminates and they can't get it to go off. BMW asks them to disassemble clutch and flywheel for inspection. SA calls back following day to inform me BMW has decided to replace the clutch and SMG unit as remedy. I will be happy to post further details after I pick up the car up next week and get a more thorough explaination from the SA.

My friend had the same issue on his car...replaced the clutch, flywheel and updated the software and the car has never shifted harder. Its like a new car altogether.

Did they replaced all of this under warranty?

Wow, hopefully I can pursuade my BMW dealer to do the same. Tonight I felt it for the first time. I had my 240 lbs brother in the car and I was driving it pretty hard. At the shift between 3 and 4, I felt a slip in the clutch through the gas pedal. Made me wonder what it was and it did it again after backshifting to 3, than again driving it somewhat hard. I read about this extra weight in the car issue before, but a $60k car should not do that at all.
