I drove the new 335i twin turbo today. Very smooth. Nice exhaust sound, not loud, not quiet...NO RASP.. It actually blips the throttle when you down shift with the steptronic. The new 3 series actually FEELS light and agile. I just kind of eased into the gas from a stop...and the thing hit 60mph pretty darn quick. I can honestly say that it was pretty fun to drive. Part throttle torque does not feel like a monster V8, but it is nice. The speedometer moves pretty deceptively. You pretty much forget that you are driving a turbo. Here is a video to 60mph with a mellow launch. Remember with the turbo, and power braking, the launch could be immensely better...So what do you think of the engine note? According to Car and Driver, the thing is supposed to run a 4.9 0-60mph, and 13.6@105mph in the Qtr mile, AND it gets good gas mileage. Im not sure..but the Car and Driver test may have been with an automatic! Not that it wouldn't complement the turbo powerband characteristics any ways.

I was pleasantly surprised. I could just imagine it with some good gas, on a cold day..And this was with an automatic. It is probably easier to drive fast without even having to rev out. The M3 would definitely have to be wound to a higher RPM to be driven as fast. To think that your average driver on the street just has to stomp on the gas, and still run in the 13s....

Pretty impressive considering the car will be faster once it is broken in. It definitely pushes you back in the seat a little, and does it so effortlessly. Its one of those cars good enough, that you would have a blast driving it, even if your other car is a E-46 M3. The new E90, E92, really do fell like they have a lighter chassis. When I went to the E90 track event at Irvine Meadows...it was amazing how you could just abuse them through the cones, and they would maintain some pretty fast speeds.
