Default How much to paint your hood and bumper? + Spray on Paint Protection?

A local body shop (they work on Ferrari's and other nice cars, very good rep) wants $1,850 to paint my bumper and hood and they also shoot the front fenders for blend. Said they need my car for two weeks! I want the rock chips fixed before I install a clear bra but that seems pretty high. I'm thinking I can get it done same quality for less $$ - wondering what others have paid? Also if you are in the DFW area I would welcome the name of body shops you are happy with. By the way the guy also recommended having the clear bra sprayed on. He said they shoot the bumper and there's not a seam anywhere. 100% coverage. The hood, fenders, etc. will have the line where the stuff ends but supposedly much smoother and higher quality stuff. They want an extra $1,000 for it. I have no idea - anyone done this?

The paint work pricing is not unreasonable - make sure you look at some of their finished products first, though. The big key is to look at the orange peel, or texture of the clear coat.

It cost me $1000 to paint my gtr hood top and bottom(excluding vents) front fenders and front bumper(lots of stone chips). It took 3 days because I was in no hurry.

What color is your car? Some colors will turn out better than others when NOT blended.

If you are at all anal about your paint, get it blended.

I just paid 850 for my hood (inside too) and the headlight inserts so 1850 or so is not that unreasonable. The quality is outstanding and color matched perfectly. Make sure for that much money it will be the same case for you. As for time it only took 4 days.

It is Silver-Gray Metallic. I think it definitely has to be blended.

RaceMX-M3, I dont know where the DFW area is but I live in the Bay Area and have a titanium silver if you want to see how mine looks. As I said before, the color matching was flawless and if you live around here I can put you in contact with the shop where I get my work done. Cheers.

I read about this spray on coating from one of the Porsche forums a while back. From the reviews that I read of it, a few of the Porsche guy wishes they had never gotten it. This stuff is supposedly permanent unlike the clear bra which is temporary. If you end up not liking it, it's there for good.

You almost always have to blend metallics if you want a correct match. There is no way the new metallic flakes will line up and set the same way the ones from the factory did.
