Ok guys and gals of the North East section, it's summer time. You know what that means. Heat, mosquitoes, bbq's and M3 meets. In the grand tradition of the M3 Forum, we are having our 2nd Bear Mountain Meet, and everyone is invited. This post will be updated as time progresses, so keep checking this page.

Important notice to the n00bs:
The last meet we organized went off very well. Everyone played by the rules. No one did anything stupid, and what I mean by stupid is this:

* Racing
* Burning out
* Weaving in and out of traffic at a high rate of speed
* Showing off, thinking you got huge nuts and are somehow better than everyone else...

Please abide by the rules. Use common sense. If I or any of the other event organizers catch someone breaking the rules or in any other way endangering the lives of your fellow M3F'ers or other drivers around you, that will merit a swift kick in the jewels, and you WILL be asked to leave the group. Thank you for your cooperation.

We are only a month away, so let's try to organize everything quickly. Pete, do you want to get the permits this time, or should I do it?

Date and Time
The tentative date for the meet is June 17, 2006, which is a Saturday. If the weather turns foul, the meet will be held on the following Saturday. Time of the initial meet at the Sheraton Hotel is 11:00 AM. There is an option for those already in upstate NY to just go directly to Bear mountain, where we will meet at a pre-determined time. This section will be updated as soon as the itinerary and route have been finalized.

"Meet & Greet" 10:30 AM - 11:00 AM
• Sheraton Crossroads Parking lot
(Moutainside Ave & Cross Roads Blvd Exit)
1 International Blvd

"The Sprint" Distance – 10.8 miles
• Sheraton Crossroads to Rt. 287 South to Exit 57:
Keep Right to "Skyline Drive / Ringwood"
• Re-group on Exit 57 exit ramp.

"Hill climb #1" Distance – 5.3 miles
• Skyline Drive into Ringwood
• Gas and breakfast stop at McD/Mobil in Ringwood.

"Alongside the Reservoir" Distance:
Take Skyline Drive
Right onto Greenwood Lake Turnpike
Right to Margaret King Ave
Left onto Sloatsburg Road
Sloatsburg Road turn into Sterling Mine Road
Keep left take 17 North

"Bear Mountain Twisties: Part 1" Distance – 15 miles
• 17North right turn to Seven Lakes Road (Bear Mountain State Park)
• At first circle: in at 6:00, out at 9:00: "Seven Lakes Drive"
• At second circle: in at 6:00, out at 12:00
• At third circle: in at 6:00, out at 12:00: "Rt. 6 East / North PIP / Bear Mountain"
• Take Exit 19: "Perkins Memorial Drive / Bear Mountain" HEAVY MERGE TO RIGHT!

"Hill climb #3 Distance – 2.8 miles
• Make first left: "Perkins Memorial Drive / Tower"
• Proceed down Perkins Memorial Drive
• Left at entrance to Perkins Memorial Drive
• at circle: in at 6:00, out at 11:00: "Bear Mountain Park / Bear Mountain Inn / Rt. 6 East / Bear Mountain Bridge / Rt. 9W North"

"BBQ meet at Bear Mountain - 1PM"
**This will be held next to the Bear Mountain Park offices and the Bear Mountain Inn. There is a merry-go-round next to the picnic tables. Use the Bear Mountain Inn as a point of reference for map directions. It will cost $6.00 per vehicle to park in the lot.

Ok, unfortunately there are no street addresses for the BBQ location, so the best I can do is give you the name of the Inn which is using the same parking lot we will be in. It is called the Bear Mountain Inn. If you do a search in Mapquest, Google Maps, or in a GPS as a POI, it should be located.

It's a possibility - but keep in mind that many may not be comfortable on the track, especially if it's their first time. This would probably also mandate the need for helmets and gloves, if not full nomex suits (depending on track policy). Finally, we always have cheap bastages who may not want to chip in.

I think a track rental is a good idea, but for a smaller and more devoted group. This I will keep in mind though for a possible follow-up event in the fall.
