A guy walks into a dealership to get an X5 (or X6) ... he builds a 50i up to $75-80K or so ... then realizes for "only $15-20K" he can get the M version ("top-of-the-line") and show off to his friends.

So, the M becomes a $15-20K decision because he was going to buy the X5 anyway (because that's what fits his needs or is what he likes driving).

Let's remember that the E85/E86 M-versions didn't fly off showroom floors, which likely affected the decision.

still not understanding why the 35is only comes with the double clutch while the 35 has an option for a 6MT.

i think that['s only the case with the zed. the 335is has an option for a 6MT.

^ me either. If a 6MT had been available I would have gotten it. I wanted to try a DCT at some point, so I didn't mind too much ... but I don't understand BMW's reasoning.
