Default Vanos Issues

I'm having issues with the Vanos unit on my E36 M3. I've had a local BMW dealership install 2 separate rebuilt Vanos units from Dr. Vanos, and it still makes the loud noise on rev up and down. I'd love to get feedback on how to resolve this problem.

Many thanks,
Mike

It's not going to be exactly silent after the work and the noise doesn't mean anything is wrong.

Replace the upper chain tensioner, guides and cam chain. This requires doing the work all over again though. When the last Dr VANOS was removed, was the splined shaft still turning with slight preload and no wobble?

Timing chain 11311432177

I can't imagine having BMW do this work is economical. I would consider a reputable independent.

Need more details. I just rebuilt my vanos with anti-rattle and it is silent. Makes me wonder if something else is amiss.
