Braymond noted "several" versions...
What else was there?
Beefier or lighter version for the LTW or a Motorsport version?

I want to be able to pick out the ones that "should" be on a car with a given stated pedigree...

Many parts get superseded with improvements. would presume the updated one is 96+ to accommodate for the larger dual sump oil pan on the S50b32, as the version you have also does not have the buffer stop whereas (edit: SOME of the) updated ones have the provision for it. They probably redesigned it with the offset to prevent the mess during oil change too.

The cross 'bars' probably strengthen it as much if not more than the gussets on the early version.

Euro M3 evo's also had an under panel that covered the brace too which you can see is clearly offset.

There are many revisions. Plus there are the non-m aluminum skid plate/x-brace versions too.

Jim listed them all here;
