It is incredibly freeing! My first M was low mileage and clean....this one is pretty much the opposite. It's nice not to have to worry about where I park it or if it sits outside overnight, etc.

Exactly why I'm in the market for a decent driver now, I've learned from my past cars that I was afraid to drive to maintain their value that I merely broke even on most of them

Also plan to save at least 5-10k on top of your budget for the car to fix or refresh things right away if you are not buying a unicorn / garage queen. Cosmetic / engine maintenance work to refresh everything can add up quick on M3s esp if there are undisclosed issues.

As an example, I purchased my fully loaded 06 sg 6mt zcp a little over 2 years ago for $22.5k. PO wanted 25k. I inspected the car knowing what to look for (after months of research) and found things I felt he could knock $ off the price that I would need to fix up myself. Cash in hand, in person helped the negotiation.

The car had 66k on the clock. Great condition, documented maintenance history but had worn items and typical wear and tear stuff + maintenance items due. As all M3 owners do, I took everything apart to inspect, clean, and replace almost everything I could with new oem parts. In all, I think spent 6-7k to refresh everything, it can be said that I spent about 30k incl tax on the car after it was all said and done.

My only problem now is I enjoy looking at it way more than I drive it because I got caught up with all the appreciation stuff instead of driving it... has about 68k miles now (2000 since purchase) in 2 years.

The next m3 I buy (another E46 or maybe F80) will definitely be in the cheaper price / higher mileage range, and in less of a pristine condition so it can be driven an enjoyed more... can't take these things to the grave.

Good luck.
if that's an actual shot of your car, it's beautiful.

1. I have seen some e46 M3s going for >50k. Do you think anyone would buy one at this price now, even if it had all the options (LSB, sunroof delete, manual seats etc).

2. Have the prices really bottomed out? I cannot imagine that someone would buy an e46 m3 at the price of a newer model at this point in time.

With the price of an e92 m3 going down I think the e46 is going to drop a little more, but I want to hear your opinions.

Reason why I am posting this separately is I would like to own an e46 m3, but my current financial situation (student) does not allow me to buy one. So I want to hear everyone's thoughts.
The E92 is in motion to go up, in fact, if we look a the sales data, they're holding steady. That said, I ONLY look at the ones worth purchasing, unique colors/combos with under 30k miles. So the bottom of the barrel S65's could be going down, I just haven't looked into it since they're of no desire.

I don't see E46's moving much in price unless they're the sub 80k mile examples.

Always dating my friend.

Have 2 on my radar for this week, both Imola's, one is my unicorn, the other just something red to enjoy. I swear some of these sellers now days are on crack. Prices are stupid for how little maintenance is done and how much info they want to give you without you pulling ****ing teeth to get it.

They all want top dollar but don't want to put in the 5 minutes to seriously sell it. There's nothing that annoys me more as a buyer than that bs.

Hope yours is still treating you well!
